The summer savior of all elite New Yorkers – the Hamptons evokes images of sprawling white mansions on the sand, glitzy charity galas, polo on the lawn and red rope clubs with a tight VIP policy. From the savoir faire of Southampton to the artistic haven of Bridgehampton and the elite eateries of East Hampton, it seems the sultry east seaboard destination has a spot for every taste.
With the summer solstice close by and the 4th July looming on the horizon, now is the time to map out your summer fling in the sweltering Hamptons. This bite size guide will deliver the hottest spots in our three favorite Hampton haunts.
Southampton is the social epicenter of the Hamptons, and a place where wealth and wonder adorns every corner. Main Street runs through the heart with its tree lined wide boulevard and pretty village filled to the hilt with boutiques, art galleries, and fashionable restaurants. Sunday mornings see sophisticated residents sipping coffee at the sidewalk cafes and the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course is strictly by invitation only.
Coopers Beach is the spot to soak up the sun, the wide and sandy beach is a haven for high class visitors and families alike to splash in blue waters and people watch. In Southampton, everyone is raving about the chic hotel Capri, but we suggest selecting a fine luxury property in the Hamptons to make this sweet summer playground your second home. Still, Capri does have the added benefit of being home to Nobu and rumor has it you can lounge at the Bathing Club and work your way through the signature sushi dishes on your daybed. Meanwhile Italian lovers can linger over their stuffed branzino at Tutto il Giorno.
With its smattering of old and truly beautiful second homes, East Hampton is considered to be the true face of the Hamptons. In the town, you will find ripe pickings of high end stores like Tiffany’s and some of the restaurants here, such as the 18-year-old Nick & Toni’s, are celebrity institutions of the summer playground.
Main Beach is considered the place to see and be seen, and often makes the top spot on Americas Best Beaches list. Pristine white sands and celebrity sightings on the super clean stretch more than makes up for the hefty parking fee. If you want to make the most of the gauzy blue sea, then head to James Perse and get him to whip you up a custom-made paddleboard to take out on the ocean or simply pick up some of his stunning fashion pieces.
Those looking for a place to stay in East Hampton should bag one of the Scandinavian inspired rooms at The Maidstone, where Josef Frank fabrics and vintage bicycles come as standard, alongside yoga classes in the garden, an amazing restaurant and fabulous art work adorning the walls.
The former whaling village has a different kind of charm to the south and the east. Here, the sky seems to open a little bit wider and tractors and farmers markets can be found in place of the fast cars and first-class bars. Pick fruit from the markets in the mornings and spend your afternoons sipping and swirling at the Channing Daughters winery.
A little west of Bridgehampton is the Southampton Social Club, a must for anyone looking for lavish afterhours action. Heidi Klum often throws her spectacular parties in the leafy green setting with its South Beach inspired cabanas, sushi weekends, and bottle service. Before heading to the peachy sands be sure to swing by Maison 24 to pick up beautiful vintage sunglasses and other beach couture goodies.
Don’t forget Bridgehampton is horse country, so those looking to ride out or try their hand at Polo should be sure to stop by. If you want to rest your head in the pretty oasis of Bridgehampton then try the Bridgehampton Topping Rose House for historic boutique charm. From the 23rd to the 26th June art aficionados can also visit the Art Hamptons where mixed media, photography, painting and sculpture are plucked from world class galleries and brought to American shores.
