Celestial Superyacht: A Peek at CRN’s Cloud 9 Interior Design Details

To be on Cloud 9 is to sit at the top of the world, enjoying the view. An appropriate assessment for the 74-meter/243-foot CRN yacht of the same name, this ethereal phrase is just the beginning of the story.

Some say it all began with the calf given to a young boy by his father to raise and sell. Others claim it was that boy’s teenaged investment in a small music store. Regardless, the now wealthy Australian owner of the recently delivered CRN superyacht Cloud 9 built an empire that allowed him to take delivery one of 2017’s most incredible launches.

The exterior by Zuccon International is quite gorgeous, but Cloud 9’s beauty is much more than skin deep as evidenced by the extraordinary interiors from Winch Design’s busy and beautiful offices on High Street in London. Exploring the luxurious details tucked into the salons, cabins, and decks is a worthy pastime that surprises and delights the aesthetic senses.

Five Fabulous Decks

A sculpted exterior and massive glazing give Cloud 9 a heavenly profile, but it is the interior details that round out this sumptuous image. Expansive decks featuring posh furnishings seamlessly connect outdoor spaces with indoor, giving the already spacious yacht a feeling of endless elegance from every vantage point.

All decks make extensive use of oak, sporting more than 20 distinctive finishes, paired with richly textured bas-relief works and marine-themed fine art. Understated color schemes are punctuated by beautiful marine motifs in a variety of blues and neutrals, precious materials, organic textures, and statement pieces. Enough of the general. Let’s get specific.

The Main Deck

The focal point of the main saloon is a C-shaped white sofa on a sand and cream striped base. The piece is flanked by matching side chairs with dark feet. All are laden with geometrically printed pillow squares in navy, white, and golden hues. Atop a sculpted white area carpet over the light oak flooring, a low, round wooden table on a pedestal base anchors the space.

Six guest cabins on the main deck each have a different finish on the bleached oak walls. AV systems, lights, and window blinds raise and lower with a light screen touch on the iPad controls of the Lutron system. In the baths, white Calcutta marble flooring presents sharp contrasts with emperor black marble. Dark oak doors are engraved with circle patterning, echoed in the glass doors of the showers and on grates.

The aft deck on the main features three creamy contemporary sofas, with textured wicker bases that match the low table. All are perfectly plush with an abundance of navy and cream pillows embellished with sea motifs.

The Owner’s Deck

Stunning by any standard, the creamy upholstery, linens, and sculpted carpet are accented with navy blue pillows piped in cream and paired with prints in a combination of geometry and sea life. The central bed looks out onto the private deck forward on the bow through large curves of glass that open to the sea.

Next to a circular Jacuzzi on the private owner’s deck, two vertically slatted wood chairs offer inviting oatmeal pebbled cushions for deep comfort while overlooking the gorgeous view. Flanked by sun pads, the wash of print-covered pillows continues to suggest comfortable and beautiful places to perch.

The Upper Deck

Lintels of bleached oak run the length of the upper deck salon, broken horizontally by cream tuxedo sofa and chairs. Clean-lined and standing crisply against the console-style sofa table, open circles of wood draw a dramatic table base. A wood sculpture centerpiece in a crescent shape is organically edged in scallops, suggesting connection to the sea. A pair of wall murals to the aft of the salon capture dramatically-lit puffy cloud formations of a summer sky beneath a playful sculpted bubble and wave ceiling, softly undulating with light from multiple directions.

Fully forward on the upper deck, creamy sunpads turn stargazers with an LED trace around the footprint. A second seating area featuring a C-shaped cream sofa tucks under the overhang. Again, a bevy of pillows in geometric navy and cream collect in groups upon each area, as shells casually washing up onto an upholstered shore.

Fully aft on the deck, the dining space presents a circular highlight, beautifully outfitted in navy table linens, navy dining chairs with sand colored backs emblazoned with sea motifs, and another beautifully sculpted cream area carpet. Water and wine goblets looking as if stacked upon fragile bubbles, join silver chargers with ivory napkins trimmed in navy blue to set a stunning round table beneath a circular lighting feature. Fully aft, a posh lounge area of cream upholstered sofas and the obligatory stash of cushy pillows invites pre- and post-dinner social gatherings.

The Upper salon VIP suites feature some of the same treatments as the owner’s suite, with cream upholstery, linens, and light wood pedestal furniture bases rustically connected by lacing at the corners, and strewn with abundant pillows in navy and cream geometric prints. Light wood floors are partially covered with sculpted cream carpets bearing waves, geometrics, and stunning carved designs. Large sliding glass doors open to the gunwales, maintaining the strong connection to outdoor elements.

Open to the sea through large glass sliders, the gym offers a fresh perspective on fitness, with state of the art equipment, a large flat screen television, and an incomparable view.

The Beach Club

Beautifully embroidered navy toweling, perfectly rolled to show off the Cloud 9 logo stitched in light cream, adorn the sofas, ottomans, and chaises on the extended beach club deck. Ropes wound around side tables and formed into accessories like a magazine bin reinforce an authentic nautical look. Soft, pebbly oatmeal upholstered cushions on sand colored wicker bases can either take advantage of full sun, or lounge beneath the squared cream canvas umbrellas on chrome bases.

At the ready, a perfectly matched tender, dressed in navy and cream with oak decking underfoot to echo the main ship, provides a very stylish way to make trips ashore or engage in water play with the large library of toys available.
