The Surfrider

It there’s one place you will surely fall in love with then it’s The Surfrider. There aren’t enough words to describe, how casually chic and cool this place is. The former motel has been transformed to reflect the surfer cool vibe with an incredibly luxurious twist and the result is just perfect. The Surfrider is located on the legendary Pacific Coast Highway. This boutique hotel is more like a super comfortable and luxurious California Beach House. The inspiration is directly derived from the picturesque Malibu landscape and California’s rich surfer culture. This hotel only has 20 rooms so it is the perfect getaway if you really want to embrace some peace and quiet on your own terms. It is all about relaxed coastal living here. The roof deck and bar is definitely among the highlights. The interior is so relaxing – everything is in a natural cream colour palette, giving off lots of light and beach cool atmosphere. Moreover, there is an option to have a complimentary Mini Cooper during your stay here to explore Malibu and the surrounding beaches. Organic food and beverages, organic skincare in your bathroom – everything seems to be thought of in a highly sustainable way. We cannot think of a better place to forget the troubles of the world from while swaying in a hammock and listening to the waves!

Nobu Ryokan

It doesn’t get more luxurious and rich than this. Nobu Ryokan may be a $2300 per night hotel, but what you get in return is totally worth it. Private, luxurious, discrete, and the ultimate getaway if you want to disconnect from the worries of the world and enjoy unparalleled relaxation in a Japanese-inspired environment while getting the sunny surfer vibes of California. It’s a haven and a refuge. A much-needed dose of zen in the times we live in. Located within walking distance from Malibu’s hotspots, it is the perfect place to find yourself in. Similar to some other luxury hotels here, Nobu Ryokan is also a transformed 50s motel. Natural materials are everywhere you look so the design goes hand in hand with the surroundings. Clean lines, organic feel, and a sleek look define this remarkable hotel. We do have to mention that at this price point, there is no restaurant, bar, or a spa here, but the naturally glorious surroundings do make up for that. And the next door Nobu Restaurant is perfect for a dinner. At the hotel, there are only 16 rooms here so privacy is excellent. All rooms are ocean-facing. Interiors are kept in earthy tones, and there are also outdoor decks for you to enjoy the sun and the ocean breeze from.

Calamigos Guest Ranch and Beach Club

Located in the Malibu Wine Country, Calamigos Guest Ranch is a 250-acre ranch that also has an exclusive beachfront Beach Club for its guests. While this is a popular destination for weddings, Calamigos Guest Ranch does offer amazing accommodation options. Ranch setting, but incredibly chic and comfortable – that’s what you will find here among other things. All cottages, bungalows and estate rooms on the ranch have been thoughtfully designed to feel cozy, intimate, and sustainable. The surrounding undisturbed nature is a cherry on top. It is the gold standard for sustainable luxury. Moreover, there’s Spa Calamigos on the property offering a range of fantastic rejuvenating treatments – from toxin-cleansing cupping sessions to refreshing facials and massages. For a delicious lunch or dinner, you can take the complimentary 12-minute shuttle ride to the Beach Club, where you are served delicious bites and handcrafted cocktails. Back at the hotel, the rooms and the whole interior is designed to reflect natural vibes – light yet warm natural cream and wood tones are everywhere, creating a truly soothing feeling everywhere you go. The cabin has a private patio, which is perfect for those evening drinks or early morning coffee while enjoying the sun.

Malibu Beach Inn

Just like many other luxury locations, Malibu Beach Inn is also located on the Pacific Coast Highway, mere minutes from Nobu Restaurant and Soho House, and only a 20-minute drive from LAX and Santa Monica. You’re at the very heart of Malibu’s best shops, beaches, and the soothing sound of the waves. Hip yet minimalist – such is Malibu Beach Inn. There are 47 rooms here and all enjoy the premium ocean view. The balconies are the perfect addition for getting that indoor to outdoor transition without having to leave your room, if you just want some peace and quiet in the morning, before heading out. White oak furniture, Italian linens, Scandinavian-inspired minimalism all define the interior aesthetic and we couldn’t be happier about it – it suits the place so well. The staff make sure to offer personalized and tailored service – you can expect to be called by your name when the staff are checking whether you are comfortable with everything. While there is no fitness center here, the spa suite makes up for it – enjoy a relaxing massage or a hot stone treatment. We absolutely love the oceanside restaurant Carbon Beach Club – it offers the best seasonal dishes made from sustainably-sourced ingredients that are always fresh and oh so delicious.

The Ranch

More than a regular hotel, The Ranch is truly an experience. In their own words, their mission is, “To improve the quality of your life by improving your health.” If all of that is done in a spectacular environment, we really do not mind. The Ranch offers a program of personal awareness and life transformation in a safe, secure, and sacred environment. It’s a place where you can find new purpose physically, mentally, and spiritually. Regaining the best health is the ultimate form of luxury, so it totally makes sense that the surroundings match that. Here, you can experience guided fitness programs, wellness support, and excellent nutrition to achieve a healthy and sustainable new way of feeling. In Malibu, you can experience a 7-day program – ideal for anyone in need of the ultimate form of life-transforming vacation. The Malibu retreat is limited to only 19 people so you know it’s intimate and very private. Whether you are a solo traveller, a couple or a group, all 19 guests partake in an active daily schedule consisting of 8 hours of low impact exercise.  Following a breathtaking and varied 4-hour group hiking excursion each morning, guests enjoy lunch, nap time, afternoon fitness classes, restorative yoga and a daily massage. The Ranch is nestled in nature with no distractions. It spans 200 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains and provides the ideal setting to calm the mind and to awaken the senses. It is set on a historic working ranch three miles above the Pacific Ocean. The grounds are rustic yet refined. There is a lovely open-air kitchen and great room, certified organic garden, pool and jacuzzi, Buddha Barn yoga and meditation room, as well as a massage village. Sounds good? 19 private cottages are each decorated with reclaimed wood floors, limestone bathrooms, and linen-covered queen and king-sized beds. A calming color palette creates a uniquely beautiful aesthetic.
