Malibu feels both casual and posh, and it is definitely also reflected in the dining scene here. The coastal lifestyle along the Pacific seeps into everything and once you head out for lunch or dinner, you can expect a refreshing take on various dishes where freshness and oceanside flavours and barbecued or flame-grilled meats take the front seat. While Nobu might be the most well-known dining establishment in Malibu thanks to its worldwide fame, other restaurants are equally noteworthy as they are favoured by both locals and nearby celebrities, who often are seen to show these restaurants off to their out-of-town friends and family. So take your pick and fest on some of the most succulent dishes on this side of the Pacific!
Geoffrey’s is a place defined by its magnificent location, where you are put front and center to enjoy the natural beauty of Malibu while feasting on some of the most delicious dishes on these shores. Once favoured by top celebrities in the 50s and 60s, the place was purchased and redesigned in the 80s and to this day it still attracts A-list guests, who expect the best. The whole space is designed in a way that every table can enjoy a panoramic ocean view. You are invited to take in the magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean, while also being surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and waterfalls included in the restaurant design. The result is a romantic Mediterranean meets Malibu atmosphere. Ahi tuna tartar with fresh avocado, ginger, and scallions or sauteed Maine mussels are the perfect starter for your dinner here. Geoffrey’s seafood paella with chicken and chorizo is one of the highlights on the mains menu, but if you want to try something a little different, we recommend the grilled pacific swordfish or the grilled New York steak using the best Kobe Wagyu cut.
Maestro’s Ocean Club
Conveniently located right on the Pacific Coast Highway and overlooking the ocean, Maestro’s Ocean Club is one of the best locations for a dinner in Malibu without a doubt. The beautiful restaurant setting includes floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed wooden beams for added rustic charm in the overall modern atmosphere. Maestro’s is known nationwide as one of the best steakhouses in the country, and they actually do have quite a few other locations throughout several other states. The Malibu restaurant is favoured by celebrities and locals alike, and anyone passing through is also highly recommended to pop in for a visit. When it comes to the menu, it is quite traditional for a steakhouse, but the selection of steaks is exceptional. Various takes on the filet steak, New York pepper and strip steaks, bone-in Kansas city strip and ribeye, as well as the Japanese Wagyu and wagyu tomahawk steaks. There is also a very nice seafood selection offering some lighter dishes to those who don’t fancy a steak.
Nobu is a household name, but nevertheless, each new destination feels like something new and fresh. Their Malibu location opened way back in 1999 and to this day the restaurant offers a cozy yet casual dining atmosphere in one of the smallest Nobu restaurants. Despite its compact size when compared to their other locations, it still packs a great punch culinary-wise. As already mentioned, the atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable and the restaurant offers both an indoor dining room as well as en enclosed patio that overlooks the ocean. However, reservations are required especially if you want to dine on the exquisite patio – these can be made up to one month in advance. Both the bar and sushi bar serve on a first come first serve basis. Signature dishes here include Tiradito, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, and Black Cod with Miso. Malibu favourites are created by the Executive Chef Gregorio Stephenson and these include Ribeye with Yuzu Butter Truffle Sauce, Heirloom Tomato New Style, and Kobe Beef with Crispy Shiitake Mushrooms.
V’s Restaurant + Bar in Malibu guarantees a warm welcome in a highly sophisticated environment where the drinks are as fabulous as the food. On the backdrop of a traditional Malibu landscape, V’s is located right on the Pacific Coast Highway, a mere 10-minute walk from the Malibu Pier. V’s is open both for lunch and dinner and offers a fresh take on New American dishes and a variety of fantastic pizzas. This is the perfect place to come together with friends and enjoy an evening full of laughter, long talks, and breaking bread. Literally. You can start with a variety of flatbreads and dips and the mouthwateringly good eggplant parmesan. Gorgeous sauteed mussels, ahi tuna tartare, and burrata are all worth giving a go from the starters menu, and we wouldn’t miss ordering the skirt steak with fresh chimichurri or the prime short ribs. Since one of the owners is also an experienced bartender, you can expect only the finest wine pairings and truly out-of-this-world cocktails to pair beautifully with the food your order or as a lovely pre-dinner drink. Expect to see many locals here, since V’s is an established household name in Malibu.
It is impossible to talk about the dining scene in Malibu without mentioning Malibu Farm. It is the place that locals immediately recommend and take their out-of-town friends to. It is that good! The restaurant is complete with endless ocean vistas in both directions and you can even see Catalina Island on a clear day. The atmosphere is so relaxed, yet elegant. Watch surfers and stand-up paddleboarders pass by on the water while sipping on refreshing white sangria. As the sunset views approach, it’s time for an unforgettable dinner, even though Malibu Farm is open also for breakfasts and lunches. BLT kale Ceasar salad is among the best we’ve ever tried, but if you want something richer and indulgent, go for the beetroot burrata salad. Malibu Farm does amazing tacos, and their meat and fish mains are also cooked to perfection, offering the best flavours on the Pacific Coast. It is worth noting, that there is a Malibu Farm Cafe and a Restaurant and both are separate. The cafe is located at the end of the pier and offers casual counter-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and it is open until 4 PM, while the restaurant is located at the front of the pier and has a full-service restaurant and bar with specialty cocktails and other drinks, and offers an indoor dining room seating option as well as the outdoor patio.
