New Zealand officials have just announced the world’s largest and most exciting superyacht extravaganza to celebrate the America’s Cup World Series, Prada Cup challenger and America’s Cup Match which will be held across 2020 and 2021. Superyacht visitors to New Zealand will be treated to a series of 11 events designed to showcase the island nation’s stunning natural beauty and idyllic cruising grounds.
The packed schedule will include the NZ Millennium Cup Superyacht Regatta in the Bay of Islands in January/February 2020 as well as the following year’s regatta in 2021, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron New Year’s Eve Race to Kawau Island 25NM north of Auckland, a superyacht fishing competition in Russell, Bay of Islands, two J Class regattas, a Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron superyacht regatta, and a J Class exhibition race.
The nation’s marine industry is busy preparing for this packed season with additional superyacht facilities currently being built in Auckland which will boost superyacht marina berths to more than 100. Auckland is also focusing on improving its yacht refit facilities with Orams Marine recently getting permission for a new superyacht refit and haul-out yard complete with 820 tonne travel lift. The yard will be built next to the company’s existing facilities in downtown Auckland
