Style Sheet 2016: Aspen Snow Polo Championship

One of the most prestigious events on the winter calendar, the 2016 Aspen World Snow Polo Championship draws an A-list crowd from around the globe to enjoy the sport in one of the world’s most exclusive resorts.

The thrill and excitement of the snow polo raises pulses – and the bar for the social set. High profile soirees are scheduled around the official polo matches in breathtaking venues, calling for a combination of high fashion for the evenings, and stylish ensembles for downtime spent in Aspen.

We sat down with Vice President of Owner Experience at Flexjet, Megan Wolf, to find out how to assemble the perfect travelling wardrobe for the polo and the glittering events surrounding it.

According to Ms Wolf, the challenge with packing for a winter destination is ensuring your travel wardrobe is not all dark colors and bulky items. Remember layering can be just as effective, and investing in high-quality pieces will ensure you’re warm as well as super chic.

Shake off your winter woollies and drape yourself in elegant evening wear. Aspen’s social scene offers some of the most luxe events on the winter calendar, but don’t let the weather compromise your glam factor. Gentlemen should indulge in a finely cut suit without being afraid of playing with color and texture, and ladies – sheer fabric, plunging necklines and exquisite detailing is the order of the evening. After being rugged up all day, it’s time to show some skin!

Sparkling snowy surroundings call for an iconic pair of sunglasses with lenses tinted dark enough to protect your eyes while you’re socializing or spectating. Classics from Dior or sporty frames from Gorsuch, as seen below, are high quality and feature a range of shapes and lenses that will complement your look – whether it’s sporty or stylish.

A statement, full-length coat is essential for wintery destinations, and it can be tempting to move towards darker colors when packing for chilly weather. When preparing for Aspen, make it your mission to brighten your ensembles with splashes of color. Muted plum and navy blue are subtle ways to lift your look, while a vibrant red will brighten everyone’s day – and look fantastic. Be bold and pack a vibrant winter coat for days where you can enjoy some down time – and shop the boutiques Aspen is famous for.

You’re in Aspen – we know the social and sporting calendar will be jam-packed, but do your very best to schedule a day on the slopes. Breathing fresh air on a bluebird day with powder snow sparkling around you is the ultimate luxury. Be sure to schedule some spa time afterward to rejuvenate and re-energize yourself for the evening soirees. Ski-wear needn’t be bulky or dull – brighten up the environment with some chic, form fitting ensembles. Below is one of our favourites from Chanel.

Save some space in your case for après ski gear. Even if you’re not a ski bunny, it’s a good idea to have clothing that will protect you from subzero temperatures when you join the après crowd for an alfresco lunch or glass of champagne at the end of a day on the slopes.

Whether you prefer real or faux, fur is always a welcome addition to a winter wardrobe. Slip a stole over your evening gown to keep your shoulders warm from your chauffeured car to evening soirees, or indulge in a full-length fur to keep the chill at bay. Fur adds not only an element of luxury to your look, but texture – especially when combined with leather, silk or sequins – instantly creating an eye-catching look.

Always remember, accessories take up very little space in your carry-on luggage, but speak volumes when donned. Always take the time to accessorize well – day or night. For ladies, when the weather calls for covering up, indulge in a selection of jewellery that will make your outfit pop. Gentlemen can combine a classic timepiece that can be dressed down with a selection of casual bracelets, depending on the occasion.
