Daniel Ricciardo Confirms Split From Red Bull. In a sensational and wholly unexpected contract development, Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo will part ways at the end of the 2018 F1 season. Ricciardo has confirmed he’s heading to Renault, the name of the company supplying engines to Red Bull that they’ve ditched for next year in favour of Honda.
The news broke mid evening Australian Eastern Standard Time and has been confirmed in a statement. “Daniel Ricciardo has advised us that he is to leave the Team at the end of the 2018 season,” the statement read. Red Bull’s Team Principal Christian Horner said: “We fully respect Daniel’s decision to leave Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and we wish him all the best in his future. We would like to thank him for his dedication and the role he has played since joining the Team in 2014, the highlights of course being the seven wins and the 29 podiums he has achieved so far with us.”
This leaves Red Bull with a decision to make on whom to replace the Perth born driver. Determined to win a championship the Australian has clearly weighed up where he feels he stands in respect to himself and Max Verstappen.
This comes just hours after video was released of Ricciardo driving his Red Bull (or a simulacrum) at high speed in the U.S.
