Audi has always been able to push new technology in its vehicles and the Quattro is a prime example what it is capable of. Understanding that the future is in electric vehicles, Audi has developed a Sporty SUV concept to capture the particular market segment. This will be Audi’s first outlook into mass manufacturing of electric vehicles of the SUV segment.
The E-Tron Quattro Concept has been developed on a sole framework of creating an electric vehicle from the ground up. Audi has developed a new methodology of design framework, dubbed “Aerosthetics”. In this structure technical measures are given in order to reduce aerodynamic drag without compromising on creative design solutions.
Active aerodynamics play a vital role in the E-Tron Quattro Concept, the front, rear and sides all have movable elements that allow for the airflow to be redirected in the most efficient way. The underbody of the car is completely closed. With a Coefficient Drag value of 0.25, Audi has broken the record for SUV’s. The range of the E-Tron Quattro Concept is approximately 500 kilometers.
The aesthetic shape that has been to the Quattro Concept is based upon a second generation modular longitudinal platform. This allows for more than ample room for the drive system and other packages for the car. The E-Tron Quattro Concept will be in between the Q5 and the Q7 regarding size. The appearance of the car will mimic an SUV shape while providing a coupe like cabin for the passengers and driver.
The larger lithium-ion battery has been intelligently placed between the axles, the benefits of this are that it gives the vehicle a lower center of gravity thus more stability and furthermore it also provides for a balanced load distribution on the axles. The overall effect of this is better driving dynamics and safety for the vehicle.
Audi has carried forward its experience with the R8 E-Tron sports car for the drive system in the Quattro Concept. The power comes from 3 motors, one in the front of the car and two at the rear. Hence this car is officially and electric Quattro.[/vc_column_text][gap size=”10px”][author title=”About the Author”][text_output]
