Luxury is a feature that only certain car manufacturers are able to emulate, however Rolls Royce has proved that through careful attention to detail and consistent maintenance of quality it is possible to create an unmatchable presence within the market. Its heritage has proven to be one of the key driving factors that make it one of the most coveted automobile brands in the global market.
Rolls Royce has allowed itself to create vehicles of the bespoke nature, and the Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed is no different. This special edition vehicle, which will be limited to only 35 units, has been made in honor of Sir Malcolm Campbell, who held the water speed record in 1937 using his hydroplane.
Discussing the design features of the car, the exterior has been finished in a ‘Maggiore Blue’ color. The process consists of extreme attention to detail and high levels of artisanship. The blue tint carries on into the interior creating a refreshing contrast with the Windchill Grey leather dashboard. Rolls Royce has applied blue accenting to the engine as well. The color has been incorporated into the new eleven spoke alloys to provide a visually appealing effect.
Abachi wood has been used in the car and has been creatively carved in order to replicate certain features of the boat that was used in setting the record. The attention given to each aspect of the car has been of the utmost quality and care. Nearly 400 man-hours are put into creating each car, excluding the time taken to build the engine.
The engine in the bespoke model remains the same, the 6.75-litre V12 engine producing 453 horsepower. The engine will accelerate this beautiful creation from a standstill to 60mph in under six seconds, going on to a top speed limited to 149 mph. The lower centre of gravity coupled with a shorter wheelbase means for a more responsive drive making the Waterspeed more agile, however the signature Rolls Royce silkiness and smooth ride has not been compromised.
The Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed has shown the perfect mix of creating an atmosphere representative of the luxury yacht era. Considering the engineering and craftsmanship that has been put into the Waterspeed, it has shown the brilliance that Rolls Royce possesses and has allowed itself to beautifully honour one of the greatest legends that the motoring world has seen with elegant yet subtle references to his magnificent machine.
The retail price for the bespoke edition Phantom Drophead will start at £435,000
