Ever since its inception in the late 1970s, the G-class from Mercedes has been a customer favorite. Each of this military turned customer vehicle is built in Graz, Austria and more than 250,000 have been delivered to customers globally in the last 36 years of its existence.
The 2017 Mercedes Benz G550 4×4 is the latest addition to the family and is expected to be the best G class ever. Built on the framework of AMG G63 6×6, this off-road vehicle has advanced portal axes and a pretty dynamic styling as well.
Ladder Inspired Frame To Maximize Rigidity
With a ladder inspired frame made from 4mm thick steel, the G class gets the perfect platform to build an off-road vehicle. The build is an extremely detailed one with nearly 6400 welds and in addition to the welds and powder coating the frame is dipped in wax to ensure that the inner cavities or any small gaps are covered and take care of. With the ladder inspired structure the frame keeps the inner parts protected even while off-road use.
Advanced Suspension and Increased Ground-Clearance
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4 is given an advanced suspension system with maximum range of spring travel to ensure that the vehicle can get great surface contact even on the toughest of terrains. Combined with the advanced suspension system, the portal axles allow the car to operate well at a higher ground clearance as well. The G550 has a max load ground clearance of 17 inches which is pretty high even for an off-road vehicle.
Powerful Engine for Top Performance
The 4.0 ltr bi-turbo engine allows the G550 to have the best performance on and off road. With twin turbo chargers the engine is designed to fit in minimal space. An Aluminum alloy crankcase allows the engine to keep the weight at a minimal without compromising on the strength of the container. Created with Nanoslide technology, it creates a surface which is even harder than cast iron.
Classic G-Class Exteriors
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4 continues to carry the classic G-class look but with a lot of modern touches. High ground clearance and the wide track width are two aspects of the car that make it stand out for sure.
Top Quality Interiors
To match the suspension, frame and the overall G-class appeal, the interiors are pretty luxurious and comfortable as well. The car also has an 8 inch COMAND infotainment system that allows you to have a great time in the cabin. More than just the luxury the interiors have been done keeping in mind passenger safety as well.
