Expedition vessels are not normally known for comfort and beauty. Aquos changed all that by designing the first true luxury expedition vessel, the 45 meter Motor Yacht Big Fish. With a most decorated launch, Big Fish has won award after award for her stunning naval architecture, eco-conscious footprint, incredible comforts, and elegant, contemporary design. All that, and stillettos, too?

This sophisticated, innovative, eco-efficient ship is also built with some advanced materials that make it durable and low maintenance, despite its beauty. The granite decking, which is non-skid, flexible, less expensive and more durable than teak, invites a previous no-no: dainty spike heels on deck. Big Fish’s advanced materials throughout also translate to less work for the crew, allowing more time to invest in attending to passengers, missions, and pleasure.

On board Aquos, passengers will find the 28-ft. Triple Ripple McMullen & Wing tender, a 14-ft. Nautilus RIB tender, two RS Feva sailing dinghies, wake boards, sea kayaks, kite boards, windsurfers, paddle boards, fishing gear, water skis, a Sea Doo, and scuba tanks, with every conceivable piece of gear, for 10 passengers.

The yacht itself is a Greg C. Marshall Naval Architects design out of Victoria, BC, built by McMullen & Wing in Auckland, NZ. The tank-tested hull is built to Germanischer Lloyds certification standards, receiving their hearty approval. The safety, security, navigation, and communication systems are state of the art. The cost effective fuel-efficient propulsion allows for a 10,000 mile range. Equipped with every need for extended stays at sea, carrying cargo for missions within her study hull, Big Fish is also extremely comfortable.

With a huge owners suite on the bridge deck, she also boasts two full beam, lower deck VIP suites that convert into four double cabins with en suite baths, embracing 12 passengers in large, luxurious quarters, along with accommodations for 10 crew. Bulwark terraces provide expansive outdoor horizon views.

Windows on the main and upper decks are all full height, and doors that connect the decks to the cabin are built without sills, providing magnificent unobstructed observation. Wide side decks and an extremely large foredeck continue to invite the outdoors in. Fifty feet above the water, the pod style crow’s nest is a comfortable nook from which to survey with 360° flexibility. Stocked with a refrigerator and bar, it is the perfect sunset perch.

The gym on board is nicely arranged with stationary bike, spin bike, weights, a rowing machine, yoga mats, and a Wii with Play Station. The hydraulic beaches raise and lower on demand, and the LED lighting, solar panels, and dining areas all take their design cues from the sleek exterior, with an eye on environmental awareness, minimal maintenance, and luxurious accommodation.

Prepared to meet the demands of travel to any distant destination on the planet, Big Fish also sports a video wall spanning three decks. Visible from comfortable quarters on all three levels, the screen is equipped to handle a number of viewing options that include a single-image, top to bottom choice for waterfall or mountain videos, or separate viewing for sections of the screen on each level.
