Benetti has just celebrated the launch of FB272, the second of 3 giga yachts planned to demonstrate the Italian shipyard’s skill in large-scale yacht construction and one of the 40 largest ships in the world. The 351 foot/107-meter steel yacht was built to match the tastes and requirements of her new owner who contributed greatly to the initial conception and design process.
One crucial factor for the owner was to ensure completely vibration-free and silent navigation, so the yacht uses an innovative hybrid propulsion system. She runs off of diesel-electric engines plus two Azipod propulsion units attached to a battery pack, which her owner provided.
Also high on her owner’s list of priorities were the external and interior look of the yacht. Her sleek lines were the work of Benetti’s in-house designer, Giorgio Cassetta, working alongside Zaniz Interiors. Zaniz Interiors were also tasked with the interior styling to bring harmony and consistency to the overlook look of the yacht. Natural light is key below decks with a total area of 800 square meters of window glass across the whole yacht, bringing life to the main lounge and formal dining area as well as the master suite.
Azimut Benetti’s President Paolo Vitelli commented, “This iconic project has had a huge impact on local industry and, after more than 2 million hours of skilled work from over 100 suppliers, we can truly pronounce her as a wonderful achievement for Livorno and the “Made In Italy” ethos as a whole. The use of such a large number of suppliers is integral to the Benetti superyacht-building philosophy: the perfect balance between the best “Made in Italy” craftsmanship with the most advanced technological and innovative solutions available on the international market.”
