Damen Shipyards has just launched the 8th yacht in their YS 5009 support series under the name Blue Ocean. The 182ft (55m) yacht was launched at Damen’s Antalya shipyard and is scheduled to be delivered this spring. Blue Ocean is the very first support yacht built with a versatile multipurpose hangar on her main deck which can serve as a garage, workshop, or be used for dive and submersible operations.
Like her sister yachts, Blue Ocean has been designed to act both as a support yacht for larger superyachts and for independent adventure cruising. She is well-suited to dive expeditions thanks to a dedicated 50 square-meter dive center, which is reached via the swim platform. There is also a powerful deck crane capable of lifting 12-tonnes which is ideal for moving submersibles and tenders of up to 15 meters in length. Her modest 10ft (3m) draft means she is able to operate even in shallower waters in the Caribbean and other idyllic island destinations.
Blue Ocean is ideally suited for expeditions or as additional accommodation thanks to four comfortable guest cabins, which can receive up to eight overnight guests. There’s also a spacious lounge on the main deck for socializing and entertaining, as well as a sun deck which makes the perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner and admire the scenery.
In addition to the guest amenities, Blue Ocean can accommodate up to seven crew members, which provides ample room for dedicated service crew as well as specialist roles like pilots and divers. Her top speed is in excess of 20 knots with a range of 5000 nautical miles when cruising at 10 knots, making her a great choice for owners who want a reliable and speedy support vessel capable of independent cruising.
