2018 marks the 60th anniversary of renowned Italian yacht builder San Lorenzo and the company is preparing for a strong finish to the year’s yacht shows with a host of much-anticipated debuts. First up is the Cannes Yachting Festival, held over the 11th to the 16th of September, where Sanlorenzo will show off their new SX76 which is a versatile and modern explorer yacht and the groundbreaking SL102 which the company describes as the “first asymmetrical yacht that has ever been presented in the nautical world”.
These two yachts will also feature at the Salone Nautico di Genova from the 20th to 25th September, while Sanlorenzo plans to showcase four yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show which runs from the 26th to 29th September. The shipyard’s headline act at Monaco will be their first 500Exp model, an ambitious explorer yacht which has been constructed and developed very closely with her new owner.
The 102 foot/31.10 metre long SL102 offers a bold new vision for the yachting world and questions traditional motor yacht design with its unique asymmetrical design. This innovative feature consists of a single side deck on the starboard which adds an extra space to the main deck interior and gives these areas closer connection with the sea. The idea first took shape when Sanlorenzo collaborated with talented car designer Chris Bangle and underwent refinement and development at the hands of the young architect Bernardo Zuccon.
Zuccon commented that, “As an architect trained in residential design, I consider every type of housing a different way of living in a home. In our case, asymmetry is an interpretative key to a typological identification process. The real challenge was not to change the history and tradition of Sanlorenzo by making a mark, but to respect the strong image of the brand and its yachts,
innovating without losing its identity.”
The SX76 is a whole different beast from the SL102, demonstrating Sanlorenzo’s talent and capability to produce beautifully yachts for specific purposes and cruising styles. The newest model in the company’s SX explorer yachts series, the 76.60 foot/23.35 metre SX76 has many of the features of the SX88 wrapped up in a smaller package. Highlights include the generous swim platform which can convert to a beach club or tender garage, a secluded private dining area on the bow and an open plan living area on the main deck which is perfect for family life.
The final Sanlorenzo debut will be the new superyacht 500Exp. Coming in at 154.86/47.2 metres, this serious explorer vessel is a perfect combination of style and substance. As well as the attractive exterior design by Francesco Pazkowski and homey interior, she boasts a helipad by special request of her new owner, a large tender garage and can reach a top speed of 16 knots. She can accommodate a total of 10 overnight guests as well as 8 crew members to take care of every detail while her owners enjoy a spot of adventurous cruising!
