There is an exclusive small group of titans of industry who have the ability to not only own a superyacht, but who also have the ability to design and build one that meets their every desire and specifications.  For some the experience of designing and building their own bespoke superyacht is part of the game. A game only they and their peers can play.

The one-of-a-kind 107m expedition superyacht Ulysses built by Kleven in 2016 is an extraordinary superyacht commissioned by an extraordinary owner. Some of the greatest minds in the superyacht world designed and collaborated with Norway based commercial shipbuilder Kleven and an owner with a clear vision of what he wanted to create the ultimate go-anywhere expedition superyacht. The result was a huge success and at nearly 6,000 gross tons Ulysses successfully set a new standard for what it means to have true go-anywhere capability via land, air or sea.

Ultimate go anywhere do anything expedition yacht

To put into perspective how unique and capable Ulysses is, consider that this is Kleven Shipyard’s first ever luxury yacht build. The builder is well known for its advanced offshore commercial ships and had never entered into the world of building luxury superyachts until the Ulysses project. Such was the challenge of taking one of Kleven’s proven deep-sea hull designs and using it as a platform on which to build a world-class superyacht that redefined its niche.

There is no limit to the experiences you can have on board Ulysses. The world is your oyster at the helm of this world-class superyacht.

Marin Teknikk and Oscar Mike Naval Architects joined the build team to create the luxurious and vast exterior living areas while ensuring everything on deck was still highly functional for serious excursions and working in rough conditions. They did a fantastic job creating a balance between the relaxing and luxurious exterior atmosphere that hints at its serious underlying capabilities.

Whether it’s by land, sea or air there are few locations out of Ulysses’ reach thanks to the myriad of tenders and vehicles on-board including ATVs, motorcycles, dirtbikes, ski-boats and of course the 21m Composite Projects custom catamaran and Bell helicopter.

The theater is a great place to relax after enjoying a meal or a long day out in the sun.

The 400 square meter pool deck creates multiple options for outdoors fun with a family sized jacuzzi and 12 meter swimming pool in addition to an interior lounge surrounded by full-height windows. By the same token the certified helicopter pad and twin 30-ton Palfinger cranes on the fore-deck coupled with the commercial grey paint job hint that there is much more to Ulysses’ capabilities than initially meets the eye.

H2 Yacht Design joined the build team to give Ulysses a world class interior. One step inside any part of this superyacht and you’ll immediately forget that you’re on board one of the most capable expedition superyachts in the world. Multiple challenges were overcome during the interior design phase including how to handle the sheer size of many areas on-board and create continuity throughout with a 18 meter (59′) beam.

Additionally, in order to abide by Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) guidelines the selection of interior materials was further narrowed. Despite these challenges H2 Yacht Design delivered a modern, light and timeless interior that is sure to please even the most discerning guests.

The spa is a perfect place to relax with a massage after a long day of intense water-sports or hiking. After a long day enjoying the many land and water activities made possible by the vast assortment of tenders and toys on-board guests can come inside and unwind by enjoying the luxury of Ulysses’ fully equipped spa.

VIP Guests are well taken care of in multiple staterooms such as this.

The interior layout includes sumptuous accommodations for 30 guests across 15 staterooms. The crew is also extremely well taken care of with large gathering and sleeping accommodations for up to 40 additional members. The master suite also includes access to a private forward-facing balcony.

H2 Yacht Design did a wonderful job creating continuity throughout the large spaces.

In addition to the luxurious staterooms there are multiple areas for dining, lounging and gathering when it’s time to host events or take in the beautiful views as you cruise to new destinations around the world.

Large windows abound and flood every room with natural light.

When it’s time to set a course for a new destination Ulysses ice-class expedition hull is brought to life by 6 Caterpillar engines coupled with two azimuth stern drives. This combination creates an 8,500 nautical mile range at a cruising speed of 14.5 knots with a top speed of 16.5 knots. The command bridge utilizes a Rolls-Royce integrated system and offers amazing views with full-height windows encompassing the large uncluttered space.

The large garage makes it possible to store a fleet of land based vehicles in addition to numerous tenders, jet skis and assorted water toys.

There is truly no limit to the experiences that can be had on board Ulysses. All that is missing is you. Pick your destination and set out to enter a new world of adventure and experience. Ulysses is currently being replaced with a 116m version, also built by Kleven and the current 107m Ulysses is available for a new owner to take the helm, pick a destination and explore the world by land, sea and air.
